Compression or Limiting on a Kick?

I have been experimenting with limiting on the kick lately. I am not sure if I like what I hear, it sounds a little flat. I normally compress. What do you guys suggest, and what type of ratios, and attack/ release settings are we talking? Thanks

I always tend to think compress instead of limiting with a kick. I'm usually trying to get the softer hits to stand up a bit in the mix and really make the whole track come to life more. I really can't think of ever limiting it.
No magic settings...depending on the kick, song, mic and room...i might have just a touch to a "nuke it" situation.
I'm sure this helped none....
