Outboard Mic Pres

I currently own an Amek Angela. For the most part, the pres are pretty dark sounding but they do serve me well. I am currently looking to invest in a few more pres to "various of color"
anybody recommend any pres? Maybe the APIs?
I'd like to keep it under $1,600 as well.

Maybe try the EH Tube pre ? That will leave plenty of money for a couple of fancier pres as well. Chandler Germanium ? Daking ? Good luck.

Check the equipment pages here. They give a good idea of what things the studio recommends. When there's more than one of something, you can get the idea that it's worth buying twice.
I've started off many decisions using this approach and only once (AT 4033) been disappointed.
