i'm moving studios and will be setting up a control room on the second floor of a building. it appears that our jh636 won't make the corner at the top of the stairs, so we are contemplating craning it through a window. i've been having a bit of a hard time finding anyone that's done it before (audio gear), but all the moving hacks say they specialize in piano moving and that it should be a problem. any wisdom?

i have no idea what your situation is like but would it be easier to temporally "modify" your building. maybe take out part of the wall at the top of the stairs. just a thought.

Can you post that video somewhere? I'd love to see it. I'm getting an 8' wide 700 lb Sony console soon and I have no idea how I'm going to get it into my space. Fuck, I really don't.
Shit.

chop it up into small, manageable 30lb pieces. carry it all in a bit at a time.

pine,

So who'd you end up hiring to do it? How much did it run you?

I just went and looked at the desk I'm buying - shit and fuck me all over again - I was worried about getting it up the stairs, now I'm worried about getting it in the door. I'll be moving it again in 6 months so drastic measures really aren't appropriate, but when it comes time to move it to its permanent home I might consider something like this.

Console me,

it cost me about $500 canadian for the moving and the craning (they also moved our jh24). i wouldn't suggest it unless you are sure there's no other way. the problem is that most people who move pro audio gear won't go near anything that has stairs involved and the guys who will do it (hack piano mover dudes) don't know what the fuck they are dealing with. i actually had one of the guys ask me what the hell it was! this was the second time that we moved our console in about six months and it is starting to show the wear a bit (scratches and dings) so make sure you try to find someone who knows what their doing and follow through the whole process, you'll feel like nuisance, but it'll save your ass. hope this helps a bit.
