Past or present, famous, infamous or unknown.
Thought it could be an interesting thread.
NOTTINGHAM, UK
1)
The Tindersticks
Off-kilter lo-fi soul pop of a sort, with wobbly baritone vocals. Pretty depressing but nice and delicate.
2)
Bob Tilton
Proto-emo from the mid 90's, signed to Southern. Emo pioneers - so much to answer for!
3)
Spin Spin The Dogs
Dada-ist doo-wop, deranged singer, something of the Beefheart about them.
4)
Lords
A rollicking mix of ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy and all things RAWK.
5)
Gareth Hardwick
Dronetastic!
What rocks where you live?

Well, I did say past or present, famous or unknown, so you could just go for five famous bands from the past.
Would be pretty demoralising though...

Irvine, mid 80's.
The Big Gun - C86 pop. Spawned a Booker nominated writer.
Almost Evening - Wimpy C86 pop. - Spawned a guitarist for The Wishing Stones, a drummer for Spirea X and a guitarist for Butcher Boy.
Easter Parade - Even wimpier C86 pop. Spawned a song writer/guitarist for the Trashcan Sinatras.
Dead Souls - Indie / Alternative / punksters. Spawned pne of Europe's foremost conceptual artists (not my words).
Rab & Wullie's Band (no name). Jangley & distorted C86 pop. Spawned a songwriter/guitarist & bassist for the Trashcan Sinatras and a member of the PRF.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with Bush.
