We have an archival project being offered to us and it would be worth buying said tape machine to do this, many hours of tapes involved. We only have a 1" Studer 8-track.
Anyone selling, or does anyone know a good source to buy one of these?
Any reccommendations besides the Otari?

I've used 3 or 4 different machines in this format, the Otari is definitely the best.

Bought it with 8 channels of Dolby SR.
Should be cool, the job will more than pay for this recorder.

Emailed the seller, and he turns out to be Bernie Krause.
If anyone's into early electronic music at all, you should know who this is, if not, do a quick search. Very very cool.

$700 seems like a good deal. A couple of set up things you may well already know about the Otari, but worth mentioning in case you don't:
1) Although the inputs and outputs are on XLRs they are unbalanced.
2) They're wired pin 3 hot.
Daniel.

So, the shipping.. they want to bring it to a high-end crate and ship joint and the total cost would be more than the item itself. We do not want to double the cost just to get it here.
I'm trying to find a cheaper way to do this. They said that it's too heavy etc. for UPS to insure and ship it. He doesn't have the original box. A possibility would be an anvil case shipped to them and returned with the deck.
Anyone else have any ideas? Do you live near Sonoma, CA?
