Band: Trip Shakespeare

With about seventeen more years' life experience in my gargantuan white belly, I don't feel the same way about them now as I did when I was a youngster. I suppose I saw them play 12 to 15 times, back when.

Even though I wouldn't pay cash money to see them today, it's pretty much undeniable that they are awfully talented. Great voices, really good multi-instrumentalists, and they do seem really sweet....

Bizarre, idiosyncratic, talented band.

I could make a great 10-track Trip Shakespeare album culling selectively from the band's discography, but none of their albums is a surefire through-and-through winner. In addition to the good songs (e.g., "The Lake" and "Crane"), there are some pretty bad misfires ("[insert title of any song on Lulu]"). And the album titles are just bad to horrible.

However, in retrospect, I'm glad that, at the time I was listening to Trip Shakespeare -- when I was 13, 14 (copyright Dan Cole) -- I was listening to them rather than a lot of other garbage to which I could have been listening.

Was this a shot at me for liking Motley Crue.

Actually, it was.

But I wasn't super-motivated to set up a hypertext link to the Motley Crue C/NC thread to re-iterate my self-evident sentiments about the self-evident lack of quality of Motley Crue, and then to e-mail you a hypertext link to this post so that you could see that I cross-referenced Motley Crue in re: garbage to which I could have been listening in the past but never did because of how history unfolded. And I ain't think you would ever read this anyway. Then you did read this anyway.

Anyway, then, thanks for helping me make a valid point.

This town was chock-full of really great bands at the time (mid/late '80s) you were listening to perhaps the lamest and silliest Entry regulars in town.

Unbelievable man.. I'm the only one with the brains and good taste so far to vote Crap? Wow.
