2003 AES Convention in NY

I might be going, it depends on my funds (I live in Ireland). Just to tell you, I was at the 114th convention in Amsterdam in March and it was great. Most reputable companies had an exhibit there and there wasn't a "Please Don't Touch" sign in sight. Some companies were even showing off their prototypes for up and coming devices and software. There are also seminars and workshops given by some of the most experienced engineers and acousticians in the field. The technical papers sessions are pretty hardcore but if you want a sneak peek into the underbelly of the audio beast, this is the place. These sessions are research paper presentations from posrgraduates in the audio field, much of this stuff may be of little interest but some of it is the future of audio. All in all it's well worth going too.

The AES convention is creepy. When I was working as a electronics tech in NYC, everybody in the shop would start salivating and talking nonsense about the new TASCAM 900bit 96khz 188track killer robot that feeds yr children while you record. My boss let me go down there one afternoon, and while I do remember seeing a couple of pieces of eye-candy, my most valued memory was two sweaty fat fucks in undersized suits trying to get me to look at their speakers by having horse-faced Long Island girls stand around in g-string bikinis. For the most part, a wank-fest.
But I digress. Please continue with the squirrel circuit semantic debate.

Jesus, the one you were at sounds much better than the one I went to.
I'd love to have had a wank over some horse faced girls (Long Island or otherwise) whilst testing speakers. The sweaty fat fucks , I'm glad I missed.

Directly before I found out when the AES convention was I bought a ticket to go to California. It turned out that I would be in California for exactly the same days I could have been at AES. I'm not too overly heartbroken, but I do wish I could have gone with some of my friends who will be there.
