I'd like to be able to still run Homesite and test things in IE 7 (maybe even IE6?) on my Powerbook.
From doing some cursory google searches, I can't quite tell how well this scenario would play out. Is anyone doing this? Or maybe something similar?
Parallels on your Mac: Who s usin ?
2Yup. It's good. I'm on it right now actually. Works like a champ on my MacBook Pro.
Oh, and fuck Mars Volta.

3Works great on my MacBook now that I got another 1gb of extra RAM installed.
If you want to run IE 6 and 7 together, download this: http://tredosoft.com/Multiple_IE
I highly recommend doing this if you are doing any web development.

Yeah, I'm actually doing this on my PC.
Just want to make sure it'll work on the Parallels version of XP.
So, is Parallels a simulated version of XP or is it the real thing?

5Parallels is a program that lets you run XP (and other OSs) virtually, as an application, and it doesn't contain or emulate any OSs itself--if you don't already have XP, you have to acquire it. In my case, I bought an OEM copy of XP SP2, and it works fine under Parallels.

6Yeah it's just like any other VM. I just like it the best because there aren't any weird issues with hardware incompatibilities or anything else that limits what you can do with it. It works with XP, Vista, or pretty much any other UNIX/Linux based OS. Pretty cool shit actually.

7I have it installed by rarely boot it up.
I miss Homesite sometimes when I writing html, but BBEdit works just fine.
TextWrangler, from the same company, is a free text editor with some nice features.
Might be worth playing with just to see if you can pry yourself off of Homesite....

I saw Dustin Diaz using that. Pretty spendy though.

10So what's the least amount of RAM to go for in a Macbook Pro if one wants to use it for web dev and audio bs?
I have 768 MB in my powerbook but I use os9 for recording on that. Works fine actually.
Using Parallels obviously adds another wrinkle to the "how much ram" argument....
