installing it now but I have to text a number to get an activation code.
I am not comfortable doing this.

I would suggest just getting an old version of AIM without all of the bullshit, and use that instead. Or have they made old versions incompatible?

Most likely they just assume anyone not using
Pidgin by now will tolerate any bullshit.

If you like pretty messengers, try bitlbee or centericq, also multiprotocol
