when I saw them many times in the mid 1990's it was nearly always a Univox or Conrad Dan Armstrong copy (with the plexiglas body)

This guitar looks like a Teisco here.

The pickups and knobs look like a old framus (not the new ones). as well as the vibramute on the bridge. Not at all like a tesco. The thickness of the wood in the top photo is also a giveaway to me as tesco's are generally 3/4 inch like and framus's are thicker than tesco's but not as thick as a fender. The location and abundance of switches on the plate and finish / color too. By that I mean the odd moon burst.

The problem with my theory is that the head stock looks more like a micro frets neck. I have a framus here and that headstock looks exactly like a fender. But this if it were a Framus is not the same model.

The framus pick ups are pretty distinctive and thease look like them.

As do the metal knobs

This is the style that I play but mine had the metal knobs and typical pickups. This one has simplified electronics and a new bridge. Mine has been radicly modded.

I think this is the right direction but a lot of Japanese copy guitars would grab stuff from other makers and clone them so it could just be Framus like. It is unusal to see the big magnets in those old pickups except for framus.[/list]

It's a Teisco/Kingston/whatever name the importer wanted on the headstock. Kind of like some of the Hound Dog Taylor guitars.

Funnily enough I was just scanning in some old pics of Unwound. In those he has an Electra Dan Armstrong sopy, an SG and an Epiphone ET270.

I love how Teiscos look but the neck on every one I have played felt like a softball bat and mostly would just feed back even when clean. I had a red one with a chrome pinstriped pick guard and 4 pickups. It was neck heavy but sexy and sounded like the tone knob was alway down.

I think I read somewhere that he'd also carved a chunk out of the headstock to make it shaped like that. That always threw me off.
