My boyfriend is finally getting his own studio. he has almost everything except a tape machine and a console. I would like to get him one or the other for Christmas but I know they're expensive. Any suggestions on really kick ass stuff. This is also for my benefit as I am sick of hearing things done digitally. Yes there is a difference and I can hear it. That is another convo. I just need help with finding some good equipment.

The vagueness and location of this title is to keep my boyfriend from finding out what I am doing. I will try to think of something clever but he reads every inch in the tech room!

Thanks guys! You are great. The studio had a great neve console that was used to record the kinks but the guy gave it away or something equally ridicules! I would have paid ever penny I could to keep that console but we didn't have the space at the time.

We'll find something. I just don't want to surprise him with some piece of crap. So I will do some research and ask for opinions on which ones are best for getting that great live rock sound he's known for. But i do know it's more the man on the machine then it is the machine.
