is it the engineer, or do interns take care of that?

If they're striking the console they need an anger management class. Even in my most irritated I've never once struck a console in anger....okay maybe once, but the console deserved it damnit.

Striking it to make it straighten up and fly right (or pass signal) does not count.

i'm torn between LOL cause i think you're kidding, and replying in a way that attempts to clarify what "strike the console" means in case you're not.

in case there's anybody out there doesn't already know this, "striking the console" doesn't involve any physical aggression. it means to reset the board, to un-set all the settings. i.e. disengaging and zeroing any EQ that was set, un-routing all the input channels, etc. basically un-pushing all the buttons and un-setting all the knobs, so then next guy that comes up to the board is starting from a clean slate, rather than having to look carefully at everything to make sure that none of your left-over settings are gonna cause him any surprises. basically a courtesy thing in an environment where more than one person uses the same console from day to day.

i'm just laughing at the image of an engineer in there recording, and an intern coming in and punching the desk for him.

"hey intern XYZ, come here and hit this thing for me!"

i've always used & heard "zeroing" as well. this reminds me of the console/desk/mixer thing.

I've heard and used "strike", so it's not as weird as you may think.

We also strike the mics when they are no longer needed for a session.

russ, you know you my ace.

i was just curious if it's something that the engineer generally takes upon himself, or if interns can be trusted with a process so formidable.
