When somebody dies, it's like we can band together and get over our bullshit. When we're in crisis or just drunk, everyone wants to be there for each other. BUT, once we're all on that lifeboat or tropical island or bomb shelter, after a while we start treating each other like shit. It's like we take a "love trip" that peaks at us all seeing eye to eye and basking in each other's pure self, but the comedown is hard and nasty and we are left staring at each other like so many undead skeletons in the whale's belly, picking flaws from one another like so many ticks. We glimpsed paradise but we came back to a charred earth.
That's my problem with people. What's yours?

People, as a whole, never learn. We can wish for a different world, but we keep falling back into the old hole, voluntarily.

This is why the aztecs had the right idea - ritual human sacrifice, as terrible and bloody as possible, every day, possibly every hour. Pol Pot understood this, as did Stalin, naturally.

People are rotten, that's my problem with them.
On the whole, they are greedy and mean and selfish. It's a shame.

So transitively speaking, Pol Pot and Stalin had the right idea.
