Thunderdome: Johnny Cash vs Stevie Wonder
3Much respect to Cash, but had he lived, it would only be a matter of time before Rick Rubin made him cover something from Innervisions.
Stevie Wonder.
Stevie Wonder.

5I don't remember Johnny Cash playing any role whatsoever in the composition or recording of Ebony And Ivory.

7Cash--not even close.
I respect Stevie Wonder, but I've always thought he was overrated. I'd put Sly and Curtis (and Prince) ahead of him--not to mention James Brown, Ray Charles, P-Funk, etc.

Stevie Wonder.
I'd much rather hear Cash sing "Living For The City" or "Jesus Children of America" than that fucked-up duet Rubin arranged of Johnny and Fiona Apple stumbling through Cat Stevens' "Father and Son." That was a nightmare.
I call it a draw -- two distinct and idiosyncratic American geniuses.

9Way more than half of Stevie Wonder's recorded work is complete pussy bullshit. Only a very small percentage of Johnny Cash's is.
Cash by a mile.
I just listened to a retrospective of Stevie Wonder's career on the radio at work the other day, it was like 6 hours. Went all through, from beginning to end.
I said to myself 'Man a lot of this shit sucks'
