Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard came on the radio today and I realized that it has no drums. I guess it has some percussion from Airto, those funny squeaky sounds, but no kick and snare kinda thing.

What are other famous songs with no drums? Skip the ballads, I mean songs with a propulsive rhythm where you think they have drums just because the time is so locked in by the other instruments.

Side thought: I think this was much more common in the 60s and 70s. Let's bring it back!

My favourite, and the first one that comes to mind is Thor Is Like Immortal by The Fucking Champs. Three Guitars(?). Brilliant.

i'm not sure because i've only heard it a few times but doesn't The Beat Goes On by Sonny and Cher have any drums to speak of? man i have that bass line going through my head now...

astor piazolla is the king of intense driving rhythm with no drums. his quintet makes all sorts of percussive sounds on their various non-percussion instruments.
