was that a fictional, hypothetical conversation, or was it you talking to the voices in your head or what? too confusing, rick. remember, we're all way dumber than you, so you gotta spell stuff out a little. is that a transcript or something? or are you talking for someone else? that'd be kinda shocking.

What was the point of your post?

Rick pretty much got it dead on, imaginary conversation (I think it's called 'rhetoric', or something?) or not.

I don't think anyone here 'loves' Iran, or wholeheartedly supports the state. But it's far more compassionate to suggest that the citizens of Iran shouldn't be punished for the state's actions. I can't believe it even needs to be typed given the absolute bloodbath in the Middle East since 2003.

While this is going on, Lebanon is on the brink of Civil War thanks in no small part to Israel.

Rick Reuben wrote: Wars between Arab states in the 20th Century, pre-1948:

I'm drawing a blank.
This is really funny, actually.

Lebanon: Independence declared in 1941, recognized 1943
Syria: Independence nominally declared 1936, again in 1941, recognized 1944
Jordan: Independence in 1946
Iraq: "Independent" in 1932 but occupied by British troops until 1947

Those are my favorites, because they didn't really have much time to do any warring pre-1948.

Egypt and Iran were both independent earlier (1922 and 1906, respectively) though both spent the 40s being kicked around by the British and Russians, had some coups and revolutions.

Then there's Saudi Arabia, which was unified by conquest over the first thirty years of the 20th century... I suppose they didn't go to war with any modern Arab nations, but they sure put a couple of old ones out of a job.

The point is that the first half of the 20th century, for the Middle East, was defined primarily by British rule, resistance to British rule, and political instability following independence for those that pulled it off earlier.

This is not to bolster gramsci's stance, as his take on the whole situation frequently wavers close enough to racism as to leave a bad taste in my mouth; rather, it is to demand something resembling historical accuracy from Bob Rick, who once again has demonstrated that he is a hundred times more interested in rhetoric than accuracy, generally ignorant, and blind to any data that does not fit neatly into his talking points.

Or it could be concentrated only in the context of a political state.

I think the problem Antero has is the suggestion that "Jewish power" is exercised in any organized way outside the confines of Israeli geopolitics. It implies that there is a non-state Jewish body with an agenda that is not limited to Israel's interests but rather the body's interests and none other.

That's why limit poker sucks. Stop playing it if you don't want the best hand to go down in flames.

Anyway, fuck the Bahai.

Everything in the Middle East is about Israel.

It's really important that we not waste too much time talking about the religious persecution of a minority in Iran when there are RHETORICAL POINTS TO BE SCORED.

Really, it's the only reason to have teh internets.
