The Gymnasium was an Andy Warhol-backed night spot in the East Seventies that had been a health club; Warhol wanted to leave the gym equipment out during shows for audience members to use.

warhol was such a dink.

i look forward to about fifty different bands covering this song like they're the coolest kids around now.

it's an ok song, i guess. sounds like VU. it's not their best song, or worth a whole lot of to do, but i don't hate it like i hate some other velvet's stuff.

Heeeeyyyy I think I aged a year trying to get through the song in one listen. Got a beer, the song was still on. Made a sandwich, still playing. Filed my nails, still going. Seriously, though I love the VU. It's just that with some songs (Sister Ray, European Son) you have to take what's good like that part here and that part there and leave the rest man.

Well I thought it was a really good track, not too long at all. But it's good because it's WL/WH era VU jamming, the song itself is like... a verse and a riff over 12-bar blues.

I love it. The riff's execution is sharp and demented. There's a lovely, teetering quality to the improvisation that marks most of my favourite recordings of theirs. Thanks for posting that.

Looking throught he blogs, it is rumoured that this was to be a second in a series of "Bootleg" releases, but that Reed scotched the project. If true, I'm sad, as "The Quine Tapes" are brilliant. To hear a similar collection of Cale-era recordings would be a joy. Given how different some of songs from that era sound on "The Quine Tapes", I'd be interested to hear them closer to their original release. I'll listen to the rest of the bootlegged gig when I get a chance. Smart.
