I've saved up enough to be in the market for a new mic or two (~$1000 budget) and I'm after some suggestions.
I've been dreaming about having a pair of C42's for about a year and a half now, though I've still never had a chance to hear them first hand or use one, so this dream may be misguided.
In perusing sweetwater and vintageking (the only site i can find that sells the josephsons), I've also come across the KM184 and some other, cheaper solutions.
So, does anyone have any advice they'd like to give?
I'd like to stick with a small diaphragm, since my main use would be overheads, and i currently don't have any SDCs (i looked briefly at the c414, but i have a lot of LDC's already, and the 414 is about as pricey as the km184, so i'd only be getting one mic instead of two)
Thanks

2I rate the Josephsons very highly. I haven't ever found the 184s to be special on anything, just standard utility mics. The Neumanns might hold their resale value better, but that's about all they have going for them.

3Go for the Josephsons. I have a pair of 184's and I'm dumping them for C42's this week.
After listening to both and talking to the people at Josephson I feel the C42's are the better mic.

4Mercenary also sell the Josephsons. I've bought from them several times and never had a problem.

5thanks for the responses everyone.
i think i am settled on the Josephsons. I have spoken with them in the past and they are super friendly and super informative.
Plus, they're located in santa cruz, which means i could probably avoid shipping costs if any damage were to come across them.
