Ampeg V-6B?

After too many operational issues with my Ampeg SVT Classic (should've gone for an original SVT in the first place, I know), I'm thinking about selling it. Recently, while browsing around online, I came across the Ampeg V-6B amp. Solid state, 240 watt bass head. Seems to have very basic tone controls (volume, treble, mid, bass), plus the rocker switches (I presume Ultra Hi/Lo and mid frequency selectors) commonly seen on the older Ampeg tube amps.

Has anyone here played one of these? I'm considering letting my SVT Classic go and trying to acquire one of these to replace it. Problem is, they seem to be pretty rare. I've only seen maybe three for sale in the last few years.

The bass player in The Mercury Program used one of these. He got a very good "dub" sound from it. I have considered tracking one down to have in the collection.

They look cool.

not sure of much else.

i've heard good things about the ampeg 150h for a snarly bass tone, never heard anything about the 6b.

I used to own one, it was a pretty nice amp but the transformer went out and it was really hard to find another. Once I tracked one down, it was about the same price as picking up another V6B so I sold it.

i've been playing one of these for a couple years now, and i love it. it's plenty loud, i've never had any problems with it, and it's pretty versatile.

they are pretty hard to find, but oddly enough it's become like the official bassamp of the birmingham music scene. i've got one, and there's three other guys that play them too.

They look cool.

seconded.
