He first articulated the concept of geostationary orbit, the thing that makes GPS and other communicating satellites work. Real genius. Sad.

And such a great personality too. I remember watching his TV show... I think it was "Arthur C Clark's Mysterious Universe" or something.
I was always struck by his genuine excitement in talking about things that he had probably been studying for years.

Arthur C. Clarke posed the question of the possibility of life on Jupiter's moon Europa in his book
2010, which was published in 1984. A decade or so later, NASA started talking about sending probes to Europa to look for life.
Like Steve's example, this demonstrates the prescience we as a people have lost today.
Rest in Piece, Arthur. I hope it's full of stars.

He described how the more important communications system of the 20th century would work, but failed to copyright it.
I bet he got pretty sick of hearing about that.

He'll never have to try and explain 2001 again.

Saint Peter, played by Dudley Moore wrote:No wait, this is an opportunity of a life time. Seriously, you're not getting in until you tell me what Bowman was doing in that room. I'm serious man I've been wondering about that for so long.
And why didn't you copyright Geo-Stationary Satellites? You would've been the wealthiest man alive! Good job being a chump isn't a sin or we wouldn't be having this conversation, would we?
Nah just kidding Arther, in you go. Stay clear of the cherubs, though. This ain't that kind of heaven
