Forget the fucking cigarrette, I want to know how far away that mic is from his foot, and what about the angle? Do you always close mic the soles of your shoes, Steve? I read somewhere that with Nirvana you used mostly room mics to capture the shoe-sounds...

Steve smoked for decades. He quit after his old man passed on. I'm still sorta-quit. I probably have about one cigarette a month or something.

He apparently likes to ghost in a tad bit of the more traditional "close-miked at an angle near the edge of the shoe" sound, as shown here. Maybe only for the transients.

That would explain all the times I've seen him on the roof over there butt naked screaming at the top of his lungs to people walking by about birds eating his soul. I always wondered what was up with that.
