Seriously. Well played, the Mint. Their spokesman was being mocked this morning on Radio 4 an hour and a half before these designs were revealed - a result of the Olympics logo, I guess. But cor lummee these look pretty fucking nice. Well played, oppressive economic regime!

Twice as beautiful as the US dollar, with an exchange rate to match!

Thise coins look swell.

Any thoughts on the new five dollar bills?

I don't like.

I was drunk when I first saw one and wasn't sure if I was hallucinating or if it was always like that and never noticed.

Is it just me who is surprised there would still be both 'One Penny' and 'Two Pence' coins... is that just tradition going on forever, or is there any need for both? I'm more curious than just making fun.

(What the hell we would do with a big fat "Two Penny" or "Two Cents" piece over here, I have no idea... kids would just wing them at each other on the playground or something)

(edited for bad grammar)

I was just thinking something similar. The new coins look lovely and all, but it's really about time one and two pence pieces fucked off. It's not like you can buy anything for less than 5 pence anyway.

It worked fine in Australia, who did away with coppers in 1991. They just round everything up or down to the nearest 5 cents. No one misses them, even though the coins had awesome Australian animals on.

Fuck off already, pointless coins!

US pennies cost more to make than they are worth.

We need the 2p piece so that we can say "tuppence". We need the 1p piece so that 99p stores can exist. Remember that these are worth two or four of your cents.

These new coins are looking quite nice. Not quite sure what happened to the twa poond coin though. Also, I quite like £1 notes and would like it if they released some.
