hi people,

i just sold my marshall amplifier and i'm planning to get a fender tube amp, the thing is i'm not sure which one i should get. i'm into bands like jesus lizard, big black, rapeman, sonic youth, birthday party, dead meadow, my bloody valentine and i'm also into 60's psychedelic rock. so i'm into that style of hardcore punk but then again i'm into that 60's rock sound where clean chords and reverb come in.

please help me out here...

thanks in advance !!

for how much do you sold it?
i'm pretty sure that you will need some pedals coupled with your amp, so think about both things. 60s will come naturally with a fender amp, then you can add the rest with distortion and fuzzboxes.
i think that any good tube amp of the classic series will work for you okay. twin reverb, deluxe reverb, super reverb. the hot rod deluxe is cheaper, and not that good, but will definately do the trick better than your marshall.
so yeah, i'm a pussy.

also, i will suggest you to try laney amps. you can check them out in a local store. the vc-30 is a great amp, 30 watts but lots of power. kinda vox-ish, but i think it will be good for you. and they are reasonably priced (about 1000U$S).
if you want more info, i can explain you later where you can test them out. good luck.

If you chance across one of those Fender ToneMasters from the early 90's you should have a look. I played with a guy for years who had one of em, maybe my favorite sounding guitar amp ever. All point to point wired, 100 watt head. He had a matching 2x12 cabinet, I think there was also a 4x12. Fantastic amp from a period where most people don't give Fender much credit. I'm not sure how much they cost these days, you don't see them a lot.

I played though one of those once and fucking loved it. Also the Vibro-King (3X10 Combo) from the same series of amps was amazing. I think they were close to $2000 though.

Late 60's/ early 70's silverface Pro Reverb, or Super Reverb. Avoid the ones made after 1974, as they switched to Solid State rectification, ( on the Super Reverb, at any rate) and an Ultralinear power section which changed the tone as well as increased the power output.

Both of these amps will do clean quite well and get really filthy when cranked. --You may also want to run an outboard distortion pedal for more gain on the Hardcore Punk as well.
