I play in the band. I am on stage with the band. I wear the t-shirt of the band I am playing in right now. We sell them too.

Faux-pas! (hey dickhead, I get it--you play bass and sell crappy oversized 50/50's.)

I always am impressed when I see a band do this AND actually pull it off. It's happened to me twice in the last five years or so, the initial offender being Robert Pollard wearing what was probably a "youth sized" Guided By Voices shirt. So hilarious, disturbing and, for all its inappropriateness, appropriate.

The last time was during one of those recent Wire tours, where Colin Newman and Bruce Gilbert were both sporting the same shirts that they were selling. I didn't even notice until about three quarters of the way through the set, most likely because I was busy scratching my head and thinking "Really? Steinberger?? Line 6 pod???? Really???"

That's funny. Seeing Colin and Bruce wear Wire t-shirts on the last tour was partly an inspiration for this poll. I (overtly) heckled them about that very faux pas.

(Yeah, I heckled Wire—you try not yelling “Manscapeâ€

I have friends that will give people limitless amounts of shit for this seeming faux pas of biblical proportions. It seems to be a really big deal to a lot of people. I just don't get it. I voted NOT CRAP cuz it's just a damn shirt. And the whole idea of being DIY and promoting yourself is, well, promoting yourself, and that includes what you have to sell.

Admittedly, I don't think I would do it at a show. Worn in front of your own fans/audience, that's sort of like preaching to the converted. I would wear one of my band's shirts to work or something though, where people are unlikely to know anything about me and my musical exploits. Or even around my friends, who are more likely to see it as 'laundry' than as 'band promotional device.'

Still, NOT CRAP. It's just a freaking shirt, get over it.
