I was thinking of getting rid of my NFAD Peel Sessions cd, and I found that we haven't covered them yet. I have only really heard this one cd, and aside from the Purple Haze cover and "Big" I'm really not all that into it. So, C/NC time! For bonus points, you are welcome to suggest whether I should keep the cd or not.

"Daffodils" is a funny-looking word.

I've never heard this band's music but they sure as hell shot themselves in the foot with that there name of theirs. It's a tremendous handicap. Makes me wonder if they ever shared the stage with such luminaries as Ashtray Babyhead, Green Apple Quick Step, Ned's Atomic Dustbin, or Fretblanket.

I've got pigeonhole, I remember 'Amplifier' being a pretty good song.

What was it about this whole Madchester thing that drove bands to name themselves things like New Fast Automatic Daffodils and Flowered Up?

Oh right, pills.

I fucking loved this band for a few years. Their album "Body Exit Mind" still makes me smile. I wish the production hadn't been as cheesy though. "Pigeonhole "sounds great, though.

I remember their video for "It's Not What You Know" being shown on 120 Minutes and being utterly weirded out by how ugly and odd their singer looked. Seriously ugly. Like, can't-look-at-the-screen-for-fear-of-wretching ugly.

I also loved how he could not hold a note for love nor money. I mean, not even remotely. But he had that bizarre nasal tone that meant he could warble his ugly head off but sound perfectly appropriate.

I liked how they never fit in with the popular Madchester bands. I also like how they never changed their name, despite it being the Worst Name For A Band Ever. It was a real pity that they tried to "break the market" with their last few records and annihilated all that made them unique in the process.

This band had a percussionist who played bongos, and they were still wonderful. Fuckin beat that, Oasis.

Just remembered that in their "break the market" effort, they changed their name to "New FADS".

Like I said, they destroyed everything that made them unique in the process of trying to get successful. Even their shitty name.

They did indeed share the Metro stage in '91 with Ned's and... uhhhh... Urge Overkill. I know - I was there.

I only went to see the New Fads, I was a big Madchester guy at the time. Nice guys too, they had an in-store at the B'way Reckless earlier in the day and were cool to chat with.

Is "Big" the one that goes "The desert grows three miles a year..." that was on Pigeonholes? I like that one. Will attempt to dig it out.

I never knew they tried to "break" any markets. That makes me a little sad.

yep, that's the one ("Big"). The single version is even better, entirely diff recording than that on the album. Came out about a year prior.

Pigeonhole is a pretty spectacular LP....
