West Coast Scum Aux: Hotels in L.A.?

Hello Citizens,

I'm trying to get out to Los Angeles the weekend of July 26th...

the plans include:

*Harvey Milk at Relax Bar
*Asssscat at UCB Theater
*Record Shopping @ Amoeba
*Eating @ Roscoe's and possibly In N' Out Burger.
*Chilling with friends that I think live in Echo Park(?)
*Stalking Paul F. Tompkins and Christina Hendricks

Suffice to say, I've never been there; I have friends out there, but I'm a try to shoot for a hotel...

does anyone have recommendations for me? I'm trying not to drop a huge dime on this, since flight and car rentals suck something ridic. right now. However, its my first proper vacation in like, 10 years so i may be easily persuaded into splurging.

and before you say "ask your friends" I did, and they're being lazy fucks about getting back to me and I'm anxious.

any thoughts?

I've been in there. FD is the way to go. Might be pricey though. You are at the crossroads of Jewish and Gay, which is probably the nicest and cleanest part of any city I would guess but certainly in LA. Food, movie theatres, etc. Farmer's Market is cool but don't just lunge at the first food you see in there. Walk around first.

This part of town isn't too close to Echo Park though. If you have a car, take Beverly west from FM/FD. It's the only continuous surface street to EP that won't make you want to die from traffic. (I listen to Liar and Goat a lot in the car.)

You may want to stay in two locations if you are going to be there for a week being closer to where you want to be is a plus.

Some areas of Echo Park are not as nice as others. It is near the opera center which is not that far from the market. That area has some cool thrift stores and sandwiches. Not sure that you might not want to get a room somewhere walking distance from some hiper places where you can walk back to your room.

Do you need a spa, pool, hot tubs, vibrateing fingers style bed?

When you book a hotel check to see if they provide free parking with your room some places do not have parking or sell it to you include this in your priceing of hotels.

There are some areas of LA that have less expensive hotels (non hourly) that might be cool if you do not mind driving to your fun spots.

The Beverly Laurel (on the corner of Beverly and Laurel) is pretty reasonable and has the Swingers Restaurant downstairs. Same area as F.D..Farmers Market
If you want to stay closer to the places you're going, the area is a bit more sketchy, but this place is pretty cheap

and Days Inn on Hollywood near Western (the subway is right there).
It's not too bad really.
Try to go somewhere with a pool. It's triple digit HOT!

Big John and Murderedman--I did not consider a pool. A Pool would be great. Nor did i factor in parking.

my friend said she may be able to find a place close to what I'm trying to wrangle so i may not need a car. Possible or bullshit?
