I made a batch of Faggots for Gay Pride weekend at my restaurant a few years back. We just wanted to have Faggots on the menu. Most people thought it funny and we did have a lot of gay clientele.

That said, they're very delicious when done correctly.

Poor man's haggis/liverwurst but still delicious if done right. Hard to do right, though.

I grew up on "faggots and peas".

Faggot is a synonym for shrew, due to the bitchy and gossiping character of the old women who would carry firewood.

Some olde time fellow would hear a lot of bitching and gossiping coming out of a large bundle of sticks, and think "What is that faggot trying to say?".
