when you buy a new vinyl LP in 2008...

I would except a CD or an MP3 download.

Personally, I'd want a CD. Why? Because if I ever lost the MP3 files, I'd have a physical backup in the form the CD. Plus, I get the advantage of ripping the MP3s at whatever rate I choose, or converting to whatever file format I choose (FLAC, etc).

The other advantage is on the label, not having to support the downloading system. I haven't crunched the numbers, but I think the price of printing a CD and inserting it into an LP packing is less expensive than supporting an online system to be able to download MP3s.

For those who don't care about the CD, well the CD is not imploding the price of the LP. Throw it away if you don't want it. Or use it as a coaster!

Highwheel Records does this with all new LPs and 7 inches we sell. The response has been very positive.

it's better when they they stuff dwarves in there, dressed like the band, and they just play the music for you whenever you kick them. but then the lp comes in this giant refrigerator size box. the up side is that the dwarves can live in the box. the down side is when you don't feed them, they start to cannibalize each other. but then you can make a nice jacket out of the hides of the ones that don't survive. but tanning and processing a hide is a pain in the ass when you live in the city. especially if you don't even have a tiny back yard. when you skin a dead dwarf in your apartment, you're neighbors (unless they're super cool) usually call the cops. then there's a trial and all that bull shit.

i'd rather have a code for a free download.
