My car just got stolen!

Jesus Christ. I'm sorry to hear that. I actually was worried about my topless Jeep being stolen earlier in Rogers Park by some rando hanging out around it and left the lady's early.

My advice is to call the police. As loathsome as it is to deal with them, it's worth it over something like a car. Anecdotally, in the city it's typically joyriders who steal cars and I think they usually turn up.

Edit: forgot the 'like'.

it's a crazy story. I actually saw it get stolen. I was watching the phillies game, when I hear somebody outside trying to drive a car. after about 30 seconds of this noise, I get up to look and I see my car pulling out of the parking spot and slowly drive away. It sounded like the guy was having trouble driving a manual transmission. It was pouring rain, and I stepped outside to see what was going on. It was very surreal. I still wasn't 100% sure what the fuck was going on. Is my car actually being stolen? Why would anyone steal my 1991 civic?

I run back inside and call 911. I go back outside and the guy is still having trouble driving the car and stopped about 200 feet up the street and got out. I wasn't going to confront the guy. after about 20 more seconds he gets back in the car and drives off. 1 minute later the cop comes. she basically said, with that model car, it's probably already in the chop shop.

the kicker? I just fucking filled the tank!

One method of relatively low cost theft deterrance would be to cover your car with a neo-primitivist paintjob in dayglo pink and yellow. --It would be kind of hard for a thief to be incognito driving around in something like that.
