I hereby suggest that all future vocal level disputes for bands be resolved by pitching pennies, like this:
pitching pennies with SPBT
At one point Dale, Steve and I disagreed on some vocal levels. I wanted them reasonable, they wanted them completely buried (as usual), one more than the other. Steve proposes a penny pitch to determine who gets their way. We're pitching across the control room (when it was in his attic at home) which is at least 20-30 feet to the edge of a closed door, which has a gap underneath. The rule is, if part of the penny is sticking out, it's still good, if the penny slips completely under the door, it's not. I pitch and am probably a few feet from the door, I can't actually remember. Dale pitches and slides right up to the edge of the gap of the door, WHOOO holy shit, that's amazing, etc, etc.. Steve pitches and ties Dale exactly, HOLY FUCKING SHIT NO WAY THAT'S NOT EVEN POSSIBLE, etc... So they go again, tie-breaker. Steve pitches and now get's his penny half way under the gap in the door... remember this is no wiffle ball penny pitch, this is from across the room, a very rugby sized penny pitch. KEEERIST, KRIKEY, PINCH ME IS THIS EVEN REAL? You can imagine, all eyes on Dale..... Dale pitches... his penny slides almost completely under the door but leaves a hair thin edge portruding from the gap. ROSES START FALLING FROM THE HEAVENS AND ANGELS BEGIN TO SING "ALL HAIL DALE THE BEST PENNY PITCHER THAT EVER LIVED" .. etc, etc..
Honestly I can't remember if Dale or Steve won, either way we walked back over to the console and turned the vocals down...

I lost.
it was over the vocals to...ohh whats that song called...I sang it.."between the devil and the deep blue sea..." nonsense..
anyway, the debate was over HOW FAR buried the vocals would be, I wanted them basically OFF and mr. albini wanted them noticeable.
He won with a penny pitch that has been unequalled.
