Will you be calling him a 'freak' for his belief in Jesus anytime soon? Can you tell me how Obama can rely on the New Testament and not be a cult member, but the blonde haired kids from Texas can't?

Though most normal religions are generally full of shit IMO because they make money by exploiting peoples' needs to have somebody tell them what to believe, cults are far worse because they economically and psychologically (and often physically) exploit their members--often to the point of complete destitution and dependence--mainly for their own enrichment.

The Jesus People USA is a cult. I have known people who lived at their commune. After indoctrinating members into the group, they coerce them to sign over all their material assets to the organization. All intimate relationships are subject to the approval of the "elders" and they have manipulative methods of "punishing" members who do not follow their rules.

Though Obama is a self-professed Chrtistian, I have never seen or heard anything that indicates he might actually be a member of a cult.

No, but unfortunately I have to label him a typical fucking politician (sigh)... I don't really believe he believes, so he's a liar -- but in this case I'm somehow happier thinking of him as a liar than if I thought he was sincere about Jayzus. Fucking panderer, and what is so vexing is that he needn't have pulled this shit to win. His advisors are leading him astray.

Sad thing to witness, but I'm still voting for him over McCain.

If you mean that he needn't lie about being an atheist to win, that's sadly incorrect. Whether Obama believes or not, no atheist will be elected in this election or in any election in the next hundred years, at least. Right now, Americans would vote for a gay Muslim before they'd vote for an atheist.

I don't know of anyone running for President who doesn't believe in God or at least purport to. Personally, I think Obama does believe in God but I wouldn't be surprised if he's a little more "left" than he gives off. Not enough to make me excited about him though, and definitely not enough to think of him as some sort of Messiah. Just enough to make me vote for him.

Yes, you must pander to be taken seriously for high office in the U.S. I would think that it would be political suicide to admit to not believing in god. Maybe Obama really does, maybe not--I don't really care. And as far as being more 'left' than he's letting on: again, you have to pander. If you alienate the swing voters you won't get elected. The Dems often get criticized for being pussies, but part of the problem is that most of the country doesn't go for policies that are perceived as too liberal or too leftist. The right has done a good job of making people scared of liberalism. It's retarded; Socialism is a dirty word now, but ask people if they're for Social Security, and I'm sure they'll all say yes.
