The Future Mrs. and I will be going to Vancouver, BC for our honeymoon the second half of September.

Looking for any suggestions, knowledge about, good places to eat, record shop, drink, and if anyone knows, see music.

Thanks.

I'm no Van expert, but here are a few suggestions:

Record Shops; Dandelion

Drink; Irish Heather

If the weather is nice, take a ferry ride to Bowen Island. There are great hiking trails, places to rent kayaks, patio restaurants, etc.

Cause if you don't, you're outta luck.

First thing I smelled getting off the bus in Vancouver was spliff.

Vancouver isn't the most exciting place in the world, but I make do with the following:

Record Stores - Red Cat on Main st., Zulu on 4th Ave, and Scratch Records on Richard's st. downtown.

Concerts/Bars - The Commodore and Richard's on Richards host the larger, non-stadium shows, and there are a handfull of small bars/venues such as The Railway Club, the Astoria Hotel, Pat's Pub, and Hoko's Sushi, which host local bands almost nightly. Check the Georgia Straight Weekly or the Discorder magazine for listings. They're online also, so you can see what's coming up before you arrive in town.

Food - Well, you have a lot to choose from. Certainly we're known for cheap sushi, so if that's something you dig, by all means load up on it. Vegetarian? The Naam and The Foundation are great. Carnivore? Vera's Burgers, Memphis Blues BBQ come to mind.

Shopping - Main st. between Broadway and 25th for cafes, clothing, antiques. 4th ave for bike, snow, skate shops. Commercial drive is a good stroll for stores and restaurants too - and the aforementioned weed.

Nature - Stanley Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, Deer Lake Park in neighbouring Burnaby.

That's a start. Enjoy your visit!

There's a nice Indian restaurant called Vij's, not far from Granville Island. The place is pricey, but it's your honeymoon.

I seem to remember that Commercial Drive, east of downtown was a good place to find decent restaurants.

Also, there's some nice beach area along Marine Drive, north of the University.

(I spend maybe 2-3 days a year in Vancouver, so this advice is just coming from a tourist.)

Vancouver is the shit. I think you can find a little review of my last trip there in the Cocorosie thread somewhere.

Just walk around, it's not that big. All kinds of cool shit.

Ten-plus years ago, maybe. These days it's meth and crack. Mainly crack.
