If you enjoy American politics, free food and drink, and talking your way into places, the political conventions are a great time. I had fun in Boston in 2004, and I'm going to Denver and Minneapolis in a few weeks. Neither my two friends nor I are delegates, but we aim to do some partying and journalism.

There's a lot going on outside the convention halls. The folks I knew that spent time in the FleetCenter in 2004 said that it was hot and crowded and not very interesting. There are many surreal and amusing street events, and the state delegations and various interest groups throw excessive parties day and night.

I guess the conventions are outside the PRF's main areas of interest, but are you going?

I work less than 6 blocks from the Xcel Energy Center. I'm at the RNC whether I like it or not (and I don't, for the record).

Hmmm...Could definitely be interesting, but I won't be anywhere near either of them.

There's a conference in San Francisco the week of the DNC that I've been totally on the fence about, but if I don't go, it would be fun to meet some PRF-ers for drinks one night. I'll keep this in mind.

My partner will actually be working at the stadium while Obama gives his speech, which we're pretty excited about.

I think my band is playing the Friday before and after all the main festivities of the DNC, so if people are in town, PM me, both shows will be pretty fun, I'd love to meet some fellow PRFers. Also Denver is a neat town, lots of stuff to do.

Bloggers are circulating lists of the convention-related parties. The DNC list is 16 pages long, and the RNC one is 5 pages long.
