Regrettably, I missed her set at the SXSW w/ Silkworm, JRLP, etc etc, but I got the new rec ('Trust Not....') and it's lovely. Anyone heard it?

This is the best album I've heard all year. This one, the new Silkworm, the New Year album. "secret wars" by Oneida, too. Best four records of the year.
Thalia Zedek's new album has something special to it. Come was/is a band that really got me thinking differently about music, and I've been a fan of her records for years now. I remember driving around in my '72 Ford Galaxy 500 thinking "wow. These people seemed both pissed and smart enough NOT to scream about it." There was always an emotional element at play that was unique.
With this record though, man, it just FEELS special. Different. Usually when someone creates an album like this their personal lives are in shambles or they get fucked over or something like that. I usually get that SENSE from a record that really strikes me. I do not get that sense here. I get the sense that she's a fucking genius, that's the sense I get.
Really, this album is truly wonderful. There's something intangible going on within this album.
So, there you have it. My favorite album this year.

The only Come LP's I can find are 'Near Life Experience' and 'Don't Ask Don't Tell'. Any recommendations?

eleven:eleven remains, for my money, the greatest post- spiderland statement, becuz it learns from slint (and codeine, given the brokaw connection) without simply rehashing the loud/soft shit.
but that's not even the elpee's strongpoint; it's strongpoint is that, despite it's canonical status as a true jedi within the slint and stones legacies, it also manages to sound like nothing the fuck else before or after.
it is, in other words, the really, really important shit, that come album, eleven: eleven.

Personally, I don't think they had Slint or any other band in mind when they made "11:11". All roads do not lead to "Spiderland"--and I love "Spiderland" as much as the next fella.
We can certainly analyze these records as such, but the connection's not there.
With Engine Kid? You betcha. With the first Heavy Veg. record? Yes. I would argue this same thing about hundreds of records. But not Come.
Each and every album is wonderful, but the first record I bought was "don't ask, don't tell".

Make sure to pick up the _you're a big girl now_ ep. It is good. Very good, actually.
