Sometimes it was good, sometimes it sucked.

So...how do you feel about your neighborhood barista?

Good rapport? Are they snotty? Are you a high maintenance, novel of modifiers type? If so, does your barista pull it off?

Have you had to do it? Was it a craft or drudgery? What was your experience doing it?

All around...the people from the cafe who make your coffee...C or NC?

I make coffee at home, it takes like 5 minutes.

Although I usually make my own, there are two coffee shops in Wilmington I frequent because I like the regular folks who hang out there.

Fuck a Starbucks. I've only met people there who seem to wish I or they were dead at the exact moment I ask for a "large coffee" to which they respond "venti." Just like in the trailer for the new Paul Rudd movie. Also, I hate the bullshit atmosphere. Coffee's alright, I like it throat-mutilatingly hot and overdone.

There's a string of coffee shops around here called Port City Java, which is about to go national, much to the chagrin of everyone in Wilmington who can't believe they fell for the joke.

More often than not, baristas are pissy people who wish they were bartenders.

Fuck, about 89% of them.

After mainly making my own, lately I've been a bit obsessed with the coffee these fine people are making. We've had some good geeking-out conversations on coffee as well. I like these coffee/bike geeks as well.

I've written and deleted about five attempts at making a coffee jerk/non-dairy creamer joke.

There's a coffee shop I like where I can just order a coffee of whatever type and not have to use endless fake-Italian adjectives. Great stuff too. They know how to make it. Why should I tell them how much and what type of fucking milk to use?

I like the phrase coffee jerk. I'd rather just say bartender than barista, like a real Italian would say to an English speaking person.

It's a "cute girl" job. Like bank teller, flower shop employee or receptionist. I guess this is why when you see an even fairly attractive girl working landscaping or driving a UPS truck, she becomes about 10x hotter.
