Sonic nurse.
I think it is a great album.

3Sonic Nurse was the second SY album I ever heard (the first was Daydream Nation). There's just so many great songs on it. I even like Peace Attack.
How the hell did they go from this album to fucking Rather Ripped? I don't even think I got to the end of that one, it just bored the hell out of me.

4Top 5 SY for me too, probably. "New Hampshire," "Stones," "Pattern Recognition," "I Love You Golden Blue" -- excellent. No idea how they went from that to Rather Ripped. I loved "Reena" so much that it skewed my opinion of that record for a while, but I eventually decided that that was the only good track, with maybe two other decent-ish ones. Sonic Nurse might turn out to have been the end of SY being what I would call "good."

I disagree with your second statement. I love Rather Ripped in the same way/for a lot of the same reasons that I love Sonic Nurse.
You should give it another chance.

6I just listened to this album last night for the first time in a while and I had forgotten how good it is. Definitely the best thing they've done since Washing Machine.
I agree with you completely. I've tried listening to this album so many times but I just cannot get into it. Even after seeing them play the songs live, which really did impress me, it still is a chore to listen to.

7Wow, I wish I could get that enthused (or enthused at all) about any post-Dirty SY record, maybe I'll giive this one a shot. Last one I tried was Murray Street, which I found completely pointless.

8I can't believe all the Rather Ripped haters.
I kind of think of RR and SN as like sister records or something. Meaning in my head if you like one, you'll like the other.
I love both of them.

Funny thing about Sonic Youth is that a lot of people say exactly that about any given record of theirs.
Sonic Nurse? Meh... maybe all right-ish at best.
Album: Sonic Nurse
10Every Sonic Youth album since Daydream Nation has been wildly inconsistent. To varying degrees -a couple of songs that are the best thing they've done up to that point, a couple of noteworthy textural noise exercises, and cringeworthy toss- offs (on Rather Ripped, that would be 'Sleeping Around').
I think NYC Ghosts and Flowers is really underrated.
