The Mekons
2So not crap for the early period while they were playing with the Gang of Four and the Delta 5 that it doesn't even matter that they eventually turned kind of bad and dancy, as did the Gang of Four and the Delta 5...
If it wasn't for landlords, there would have been no Karl Marx.

When did the Mekons get dancey? I know they were country for a while, but dancey?
Better yet, eat the placenta!!!

Their cover of "It Makes No Difference" on the Fun '80 EP is arguably "dancy" but definitely not "bad." It's actually pretty fucking "great."

5Consistently great band, and Jon Langford's a stand-up guy to boot. Honky Tonkin' and Fear and Whiskey are genius albums.
Very much NOT CRAP.

7i love the mekons! "where were you?" is one of my favorite singles. many great records like fear and whiskey, the edge of the world, rock and roll, etc. i also love that ROIR tape (new york) reissued a few years ago.
they're still really good! if you want to check them out, i recommend that new 2 CD anthology. usually those are terrible, but it was really well done, and might actually be the best introduction to the mekons--wildly uneven and prolific as they are (or have been)

8Mekons: NOT FUCKING CRAP! FUCKING NOT CRAP!
Ever see them live? They will rock you MERCILESSLY and WITH STYLE!
Waffle Factor: ZERO!
ALSO! Jon Langford @ Walker Art Center, Feb. 10-11! The Executioner's Last Songs. Best known as the frontman for the Mekons, Jon Langford has created a mordantly beautiful performance work — The Executioner's Last Songs — that is a compelling collection of tales and songs on the themes of murder, mob law, and cruel, cruel punishment. Langford takes us on a twisting and witty autobiographical ride that looks unflinchingly at the promises of life and the penalty of death. The performance combines live music, spoken word, his own visual art, and recordings of American roots music.
YAY!
