Not crap for me, with a moderate waffle factor because:

(1) They really aren't that far removed from bland 'Stones-ish bar rock.

(2) They are, in large part, responsible for 1980s cock-rock. Guess I can't exactly blame them for that, but it's a factor nontheless.

Still, I think the two proper albums were damned great. Neat guitar sound, neat vocals, pretty great (yet grossly overrated) band.

most of their songs are not very memorable and the playing is not great either. i guess that wasn't the point of the band though. plus they greatly inspired kiss.

This goes under the "not crap" category for me...

A friend just loaned me a remastered version of the first album. It's utterly fantastic, and the tracks that formerly seemed like filler turn out to have been great songs buried under sludge.

An enthusiastic not crap.

Not Crap. They looked like no other band on the Midnight Special in 1973, and that means a lot to an eleven year old.

I met David Johansen in 1986, before any of that Buster Poindexter shit. Stinky, but a real friendly guy.

One of the smartest, funniest bands ever. "Vietnamese Baby" is brilliant, "Lonely Planet Boy" is gorgeous, and "Trash" should have been a hit as surely as "Rockaway Beach." Excellent taste in covers, too. Don't blame them for Poison--or Buster Poindexter.
