is this because edinburgh is mainly tenement flats, with no opportunity for drum practise?

is it a question of numbers i.e. scotland is too small to spawn a significant amount of drummers, given that only 1/10000 people want to be one?

either way, our nation's high musical potential is being stifled by lack of rhythm. so:

send us your drummers!! every US band i see over here seems to have an incredibly good drummer, probably raised in the suburbs, with access to a drumkit in his parents' garage, and a couple of guitarists down the street.

c'mon, you could do with a few less; we could do with a few more!

a hey.

Believe it or not, I think the drummer shortage is world wide. (sans Tibet or Africa where they bang on shit all the time).

But actually the guy who used to play drums in my band just moved over to York. I know it's not scotland, but if geography serves, it's not too far. He's pretty damn good.. He's going to grad school to study vikings or something, so he's probably pretty busy but he did bring his kit along with him.

If you want an email address for him, let me know.

Rock.

If you're looking for a drummer, then go look in the southeast. I used to live in Atlanta, and it was always easy to find rehearsal places and practice rooms, not like, say, L.A., where you gotta pay by the hour. I believe that's why there are so many drummers around the south; they can actually play and make noise and get better without spending an arm and a leg to have a place to set up their drums. I'm sure there are plenty of other areas around the country like this, but I've experienced the situation firsthand there.
