Getting a start in recording

i think most people get into recording by getting something to record on like a 4-track or a computer or maybe one of those hard-drive things (roland) and a few friends and they just start recording... possibly more educational than an internship... possibly. certainly more fun.

forgive me if you meant "starting a professional career" by "getting into recording." even if that IS what you meant, a 4-track is a good idea anyway... go for it.

if you plan on buying gear ?then tape OP or basically any gear mag you can get?!read and plan on taking a few months to learn as much as possible before buying a single piece of gear!
the worst is buying things you wont need starting out.
I even went to the local university(USC) and bought there book on recording through a friend attending there.

If you want to be a runner(getting bands food and making coffee?)@a nice studio thats a good start ,hopefully in a few months the owner will let you touch some gear .
If you plan to start a biz by building a studio? just building it won't get you $ #$#%$@
!start out slow and you will do fine.

A few thousand and you can be on your way!
buy smart!
thrift and get used stands and work horse mics and some kind of multi
track and have fun.
I saved tons of cash by cleaning out garages for wood and tools ,checking local paper for free give aways on building material that is if you plan to also building it ?(USC book helped !it had floor plans and construction tips on some of the worlds best studio's)
Just like you 5 years ago(sincere)
now i'm happy making records in Los Angeles and fucking in debt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!HELL YEAH!!!!
