hey all,
I am moving out to Denver with my girlfriend in a month (she got a new job). i've only really been there once (the other time i was waiting to switch planes). anyway, i wondering if anyone here could inform me more about this city or recommend stores, restaurants, things to do, yadda yadda yadda. pretty basic I know but whatever.

2Twist and Shout is a good record store.
Larimer Lounge puts on good shows.
There is a lot more, but I don't live there, so that's the small amount I know.

3record stores:
wax trax: the original one founded in the late 70's. pretty amazing.
twist n shout: great vinyl store
double entendre: decent indie store
cheapos (a few locations): good used cd stores
for shows, check these places:
www.suburbanhomerecords.com (there's a colorado shows section)
www.sodajerkpresents.com (a local promoter who occasionally puts on good stuff)
www.nipp.com (another local promoter who has kinda gone to shit in the last 5 years but still puts on good shows rarely)
the only really notable restaurant i can think of is Watercourse Foods, as it's all vegetarian and is a popular musician/scenster hangout. it's located a few blocks east of wax trax on 13th st. illegal petes (denver and boulder) has a similar vibe, but not to the same extent.
this is probably enough to get you started for now. i just moved from there last week after living there for 10 years so ask if you need any more info.

4what these guys said, minus double entendre (yuck). it's actually a good area for record stores; a bunch of shit comes through there, and you won't pay nearly what you'd pay on the coasts or a major city like chicago
boulder wax trax was better (also since 1978), but i hear it closed recently
my favorite is actually Black and Read in Arvada, not far from Denver.. god i love that place
monkey mania and 16th street tavern have lots of good shows too
i will think of restaurants and such. denver--she is not bad! enjoy!

7There's a place called the hi-dive that's doing shows as well. It seems that they do DJ's a lot, but will put on a rock and/or roll gig on weekends (?).

8if you get bored drive north to colorado springs - it's not too far if memory serves correct and there are some cute little places and even some good pawn shops up there.
whatever you do, don't be one of those dick pimples that takes that view for granted. i know you won't, but i'm just saying...

sorta yay. the ALL guys live up there, so most of the bands involve either them or their friends (drag the river and bill the welder come to mind), but yeah, there are shows at both the Starlight and Aggie Theatre. they also own a studio up there called the Blasting Room that's pretty nice if that's your thing.. 2" 24 trk., SSL console, lots of outboard and instruments, etc.
