Hello,
Does any one know any other good places to rent studio gear (mics, preamps, etc) in Chicago. The only two places I know of are Andy's music and RentEfx. Anyone know of any other places?

ah... TC FURLONG.... I can't recommend these guys enough... They don't have a ton of studio gear (they're mostly a live company), but they have the best service EVER. I work in theatre in Chicago, and they are always the first people I call when ever I need anything. The gear that they deliver is always in pristine shape, and if you ever need anything, they will with out question hop in a car/ truck/ hovercraft and come over and help you out. Thier prices are a little bit higher than say Gand or Chicago Sound, but what you are paying for is piece of mind that the gear and service is top notch.

GAND sucks... the gear you get from them is questionable whether or not it will even work. Even worse than GAND is Bridgewater. Seriously some of the worst gear you can rent. A couple of weeks ago I ordered some EAW wedges from Bridgewater and one of them showed up with a huge labe across the front of it saying "Broken." Thanks guys for sending me gear that I didn't even have to make the effort to find out that it was broken.

Lounge Ax used Midtown rentals for instruments and amps and live gear type stuff. As I remember Denny is a nice guy to deal with. I believe they are now on north Elston. Also Windy City Music has two locations; one on Belmont right near the highway and one in Glenview. Elliot Dicks works there and so does Wayne from the Eternals/Trenchmouth fame, or at least he did. They have all sorts of stuff from PA rentals to CD burner stand-alones to sound and lighting and DJ stuff and mics and cables, etc.

I also recommend TC Furlong. TC loves music. His approach to live sound is practical, straight forward and highly effective. He has great stories to entertain you with and can point you to the right person if he can't help you with something. His employees are professional and highly respected around town. Can't say enough good things about this company.
