Really. What is the deal with Seinfeld? His stand-up is some of the worst crap I've ever heard, but when he's surrounded with a very entertaining supporting cast and the writing is good, it's NOT CRAP. I got that boxset that has the first three seasons and have already watched most of it. Funny stuff. I can see how people wouldn't like this show, though, hence the poll.

I have always liked the show. 'Curb Your Enthusiasm' is a bit meaner/funnier though. I just saw the Seinfeld cast on Oprah (I am sick in bed... get off my case!). It was very underwelming. I think maybe Oprah is not a fan. I do still laugh out loud at the show (Seinfeld...not Oprah) when I catch it.

I just found seasons 1 and 2 of Curb Your Enthusiasm used and picked them up, having never seen the show, just because of the good things I've heard about it. The good things I heard were true! This is a great, great show!

I really, really hated Seinfeld when the show was current. Just couldn't stand it. I hated everybody assuming I watched it. I fucking hated Kramer and his ham-fisted attempts at physical comedy. That bass shit between scenes made me homicidal. I hated the smug whiteness of it. Jason Alexander is a carbunkle on God's perenium. When that fucking show finally went away I was so fucking happy.

Of course it hasn't gone away. Now, when I see it, I realize that a lot of the time the main characters are really being punished for their narcissism- that a lot of the comedy comes at the expense of them and the pointless selfishness with which they live their lives. Before, I would watch a little of the show and it seemed like their bullshit was being celebrated.

Anyway, I can now admit that I have been entertained by it. More than once.

It still gets a steaming CRAP from me, though.

Curb Your Enthusiasm is an absolutely fantastic show.

usually disliked _seinfeld_ quite a bit

i didn't like any of the characters on the show. which isn't a prerequisite for liking something--i didn't like any of the characters in _goodfellas_, either. but _seinfeld_ would really have to bring it to overcome my sometimes intense dislike for its characters. it didn't really bring it.

the tv box set that i bought the other day is the first volume of SCTV. jesus h, that was a great show. i used to watch it every week back in the day. i think it largely formed my sense of humor.

is it common knowledge that the band don cabellero is named after guy cabellero, the owner of the SCTV network? and the album title _for respect_ is from the able-bodied guy cabellero's reason for using a wheelchair?

I knew this, but I'm also a fan of Don Cab. Note the pic of Damon on the back of "For Respect" dressed up as Guy Caballero...

I agree. Seinfeld has always been Hotel TV for me.

Anything that you would never watch at home but can just about bear to sit through when there's nothing else on is classified as Hotel TV. Other Hotel TV shows include:

- Good Morning America
- Scooby Doo
- Cops
- CHiPs
- Local FOX channel news at 10 alarmist rubbish

Being stuck in a hotel with a limited set of channels sucks. Nothing makes me love my TiVo more than being away from it.
