Circumcision

OK, who here has had the snip?

Me, I'm uncut - but that's because few people in Ireland have it done. My first girlfriend in the USA thought it was "weird and a little off-putting" that I was intact. Grrr!

I recently attended a bris, and it was the first time I'd seen it happening live. That baby screamed blue murder during it. Nobody can convince me that they don't feel anything.

I don't understand those who get it done purely for preventative medical reasons. I have yet to find a compelling argument for that.

you're lookin at one squeeky clean gentile. i don't really understand why though, obviously the birth givers thought it righteous to give me a dick choppin'. haven't ever discussed it with them either. maybe this christmas...

also as a bonus, in addition to declaring amount of dick skin you're packin' answer the following, would you (or have you) have/had your kid's member cut down to size?

for me this answer not so clear.

I am cut, but after having a son a year and a half ago, we learned that fewer boys are getting snipped these days. None of his friends at day care were snipped.

We opted not to have our son get snipped, as the doctors informed us there is absolutely no medical reason to do it. The myth about the foreskin getting infected is actually just a myth. The only reasons kids still get cut these days are either religious, or because uninformed fathers think it's the right thing to do.

We were told that world-wide, 1 in 10 men have been circumsized, and out of those, 90% are in the US.

Statistically it can be shown that, all else being equal, men with uncircumcised penises have a greater risk of contracting AIDS than people like me, who have been trimmed, and are display-caliber. The mechanism is probably that the foreskin traps booty-juice, which then has more time to transmit the virus to the diz-hole.

Yeah, I'd heard this too (the AIDS thing, not the display-caliber thing), but there are equally compelling arguments for the opposing view:

"Based on the studies published to date, recommending routine circumcision as a prophylactic measure to prevent HIV infection in Africa, or elsewhere, is scientifically unfounded."

If myself and my wife ever have a son, I think I'd rather recommend a condom versus a chop :-)

When I found out I was going to have a son, that was an issue I was going to have to deal with. I was circumsised, but I did not know if that is what I wanted for my kid. So, I did research on it at the bookstore, library, and the net. From what I could gather, most of the health problems like dick cancer are really just myths. Most of the world is not snipped, and everybody seems to be doing fine. It's really a cultural/religious practice, not a medical neccessity. I was raised catholic, but I think organised religion is an opiate, so I knew my son would not be raised a "christian".

The other arguements were:
1. "You are circumsised, you son will be differant than you. Won't he wonder?"
This seems like a pretty easy talk to have and not really that big of a deal.

2. "The other kids will pick on him!"
I don't know about you, but pointing out what someones dick looked like was an open road to being called a fag. I don't remember anybody being picked on about it. Kid's get picked on for all sorts of stupid shit, so I'm not going to live my life worrying what some 8th grade assclown loser might say about my son in 8th grade.

In some of the reading I did, it was mentioned that some/alot of nerve endings get cut off. Also, the foreskin acts like a sheild to protect the sensitivity of the head, and by removing it (permanently exposing the head), takes away some of that sensititvity over time.
In some ways, it's only a less damaging version of female circumsision. Why is that barbaric, but not the male version?

But overall, when I looked at my little guy fresh from his mom's oven, he looked perfect, and there was no way I could have the doctor lob something off that wasn't broken.

There are only two reasonable reasons for giving a child a circumcision:
1. It is for health and cleanliness of the penius.
This is an antiquated notion in this day and age.
2. It is part of a religious ceremony.
This is more plausable reason for the procedure esp. if the child's parents are religious.
The circumcision really does nothing of any value for the penius. And dont give me...
3. It makes it look bigger!
Bullshit. I fail to percieve this as fact.
