What ever happened to Pinball games in the bar. When I was growing up in my grandfather's bar as a kid he always had some pinball. He sold that bar and later when I became drinking age I went into bars expecting pinball and only found broken dreams and Golden Tee. For Shame.

I don't know about 1986, but The Addams Family game is the best table I've ever played. I must have put hundreds of pounds into that machine.

pinbot, star wars, and twilight zone. those were the machines that they had in the game room of the Columbia College dorm back circa '93-'95. all were badass.
the memory of pinbot (or rotbot as we called it) was revived as part of a process my best friend and i have embarked upon. a "project" if you will. to make a thinly-veiled pastiche to "we didn't start the fire" that uses all events and taglines from our college years, that could only possibly make sense to about four people in the world. stuff like "frat party, back yard, fence me!" or "four melons and a mookdu". rotbot was nestled in there somewhere.
salut, pinball! you are the antisocial peer of darts!

In the early eighties, one of the local clubs (Starship) had a kick ass GORGAR pinball machine. It made cool noises, had a demon motif, and many local band recordings from the era have the GORGAR pinball machine sounds on them between songs.
I got hooked on pinball (10 cents a game) on a family vacation when I was a pre-teen. "Things I'd Like To Say" by the New Colony Six was on the jukebox, forever to be burned in my brain. Those teens played the shit out of that song.
One of these days, I WILL have a pinball machine in the practice space, I swear.

I didn't really get into pinball 'til a bit later on, but i must say the most fun table i ever played was the Super Mario World one. That had the MOST KILLER multiball i have ever seen.

Although it wasn't circa 86', my votes in for the Williams made Whirlwind machine complete with actual whirlwind simulator...

I actually met a developer who worked for Williams/Bally back in the 80's who worked on Joust. I just happened into a bar that used to have Dirty Harry pinball and still has cheap drinks (Lakeview Lounge). I incidently asked him why pinball is no longer a staple in the bars. He and I waxed ecstatic for at least an hour about pinball (one of the best bar conversations I have ever had) and he told me about his exploits in the arena of pinball. Anyway. Here's a picture (hopefully).
. I used to love this pinball game. They used to have it in a bar in Ohio when I was a kid. I think all said and done I had to pump about a bajillion dollars in it over a two year period. Any bar that has pinball no matter how dank or nasty scores an A+ in my book. God I miss pinball.

8 Ball Deluxe: The staple of any arcade circa 1980. "Stop talkin' and start chalkin'."
