do people here like shaking hands

I dislike shaking hands. First of all, hands are dirty. Second, the act of shaking hands is insincere and stupid. Keep yer filthy hands to yerselves, fellas (ladies, feel free to touch me in any way that pleases you).

i disagree. i think that shaking hands is very sincere. if you don't want to shake someones hand for whatever reason you may have, then don't do it. if you do it when you don't mean it then thats insincere. and as long as you keep your hands out of your mouth I wouldn't worry about them being dirty. just keep a bar of soap in your pocket like howard hughes; you'll be clean and sincere in no time.

i like shaking hands because i am generally better at it than most people i run into. plus, it's a good should-i-continue-talking-to-this-person litmus test.

If we're shaking hands, then we're not shooting each other. So, yes, I'm all for shaking hands.

But some of you really need to work on that non-committal dead fish business. Ugh.

i like shaking hands with someone when we're both enthusiastic. i fucking HATE it when someone gives me their hand to shake and it's totally limp. what the hell is that?

What the hell is it? It's a window into their character. I guess.

Pro-shaking hands. A too-firm handshake is sometimes bad, but it always is better than a limp one. I was taught how to shake hands, and I think people with limp ones just kind of picked it up from watching. So maybe it's partly how you were raised. Still, if I were a dead fish, after the first couple of firm squeezings I think I'd get the idea...

In conclusion, people with limp handshakes are slow learners who were raised wrong.

There should be TWO shakes, and the second should stop abruptly with a mild squeeze.
Three shakes or more is too familliar for strangers, and limpness should be frowned upon at ALL times. A limp hand gives away alot about its owner.
Would you go to battle with a man who shakes like a lady? NO.
Would you want that same man to be your stepfather? NO.
Would you want him to be the guy pulling you from a train crash? NO.
And a curse on the houses of those that try those 'alternative' sub-Masonic handshakes - these are an ABSOLUTE travesty of a greeting.
Recieving a present from Santa last week he shook my hand in the above fashion (I had refused to sit on his lap). I would have thrown the gift right back in his face if it hadn't have been a rather nice bottle of red wine.

A quick firm handshake is the most appropriate greeting for strangers. two or three shakes with the last one having the pause before the disengage seems the norm.

A slightly longer handshake is normal for acquaintances.

A funny Hells Angels type is good for a goof among friends (unless your an Angel).

My boss has a very long and firm handshake with a little strange maneuver at the end... it's a little off putting at times. but none-the-less it is sincere.

there is a member on here, whom shall remain nameless, that when we first met years ago I felt they had a wimpy handshake... they have since corrected this as of the last time we met. Congrats, I think you know who you are
