I hate this band more than I hate that Dexy's Midnight Runners' track.

I love me some Spacemen 3, but Spiritualized is garbage. The first Sonic Boom/Spectrum record is a much better listen than Spiritualized's Laser Guided Le Crap.

Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space is a great record. The rest of their stuff is average/lame.

i got to see them on the 'ladies and gentlemen' tour and i had no idea what i was witnessing. i thought it was pretty good, but didn't discover the greatness of that album until a few years later.

"let it come down" is also an incredible record.

"amazing grace" is not.

Not crap. I saw them live once at the Double Door in the 90s and I liked the show a lot.

The one thing I can't stand? The whole 'Jesus' thing. Fuck that heroin Jesus crap. Was it all because of the one V.U. song, 'Jesus'? Is that where it all started? Or is it because when you're all high on junk you feel the warm glow of Jesus... like you're 'seeing the light'? Or are junkies so fucked up they're calling out to Jesus for help? Whatever the case, that is some tired shit.

NC. Amazing Grace bites, though. They hypnotized me at Metro a few years ago with a horn section and backup singers.

For a long while they would have been considered my favorite band! Not Crap!

Don't know the answer to this, but I dig it. As a lapsed Catholic, I find the 'Jesus' (I want to say 'religious') songs on the Spacemen and the Spiritualized records refreshing as hell. I dig songs about cars and girls and alcohol, but whatever Jason Pierce was shooting it turned out some quality, droning lyrics.

There is a newish Spacemen biography out that retails for $35. When it hits the remainder stacks I'll read it and hopefully solve the JC question.
