having the experience of being both, and now neither, i know one thing is true
if you only know your rock/punk/alternative, your still in high school
if you know your blues/r&b/soul your a freshman
if you know your world/odd/country etc. you are a sophmore
if you know your jazz (all of it) your a junior
if you like/know experimental music you have advanced, maybe a senior
IF YOU DONT KNOW YOUR CLASSICAL, YOU DONT KNOW SHIT.
how many snooty music snobs (and i am one, and have known plenty) really know a lot about music? you would be surprised to find out how little these people do really know.
if they dont know classical, they are possers.

I'm pretty sure I graduated, but I feel like a lot of it was cramming for the finals.

If one lacks command of basic English spelling and grammar, where would that place one in the educational hierarchy?

I'd go further into dorkdom:
Freshman: Philip Glass
Sophomore: Steve Reich
Junior: LaMonte Young
Senior: Tony Conrad
Senior Thesis: Arnold Dreyblatt
post-grad: Phill Niblock
Doctorate: Elaine Radigue
Seriously though, it's a big separation, ultimately, between the music geeks who love sound and those who love a specific scene, I think.
But whatever...I always thought how different people relate and create sound is an incredible tribute to the power of the creative mind. But if you don't know who Christian Marclay is, I might huff a bit.

you don't need to know shit about music
to know about music.
that's the only reason it survives generation after generation. classical music can go fuck itself if you look at the bigger picture.

Sounds like an excerpt from my new short film: "Discussing Music with Rednecks at a Truckstop"

not knowing and apathy are so cool.
