Did anyone else here really love Jane's Addiction when they were first around?

It was kinda cool having a "proper rock band" after Poison and Warrant's equally silly, but utterly shite music.

I'm/was a big fan... but recently, after seeing more of their craziness, via DVDs etc, I'm beginning to wonder what they put in the water in LA?

Why does the LA breed drug addled hippies, with a nack for speaking the most incredible pycho-babble nonsense. But the east coast, just the drug addiling???.... Is it the weather?

i wore the crap out of my nothing's shocking dubbed cassette as a 14 yr old. loved em then - but yes they are silly now. make an intereresting condenter for the crap not crap game.

i really thought this thread was going to be contrasting jane's addiction to the chicago (now new york) rapper common, who was originally known as common sense - and likewise how he started off pretty cool, and then is just getting a little too hippie/down with love in hip hop.

Overrated band.

I saw Jane's Addiction in the summer, Perry Ferrel has about as much stage presence as a mic-stand. The best part of the show was listening to the music taper down to a muffled base line as I was walking to the parking lot.

Has anyone ever seen that video of Jane's Addiction playing some huge show at some huge gigantidome and Perry Ferrell starts talking about crop circles in the middle of some long hippy jam? I think there is also a clown following him around the stage miming reaction to what Perry Ferrell was saying (Actually, I may be making that part up...it seems to ridiculous to have actually happened). He keeps saying "Crop circles...think about it!" Anyway, it is hil-fucking-larious! I practically pee myself just recalling it. How did they get so popular? Are we humans really THAT dumb?

Q. What do you do when your band isn't together for a while and you don't have any talent?

A. Buy some turntables and "remix" your band's old albums.

I loved that band in the early-90's. But now that I am ten years older and a tad bit wiser, I realize what douchebags they are. I don't care how proficient Perkins and Navarro are. A twit is a twit. The more I learn about them, the less I like them.

did any of you see their magazine covers and press photos for their latest album and tour? i could not belive how stupid they looked. either they know its all silly, or they are the second comming spinal tap. I cant take any band that looks that silly seriously. were they hoping i was gonna cut their pictures out and hang them up in my locker at work and frame them above my bed?

Well, I saw them last night in London and it was a fuck'n disappointment! Started well, but descended into a pile of shite covers -Wild Thing for fucks sake!- and an unbalanced set. No Mountain Song, no Ain't No Right, no fuck'n Three Days. I wasn't expecting a "reunion" set, but not playing their three strongest songs and playing covers instead is unforgivable...
