I think the snare sound on Jesus Lizard's "Goat" album is the best ive ever heard. Could Mr. Albini or any one else who knows tell me what kind of Mics were used on that kit? what kind of room it was? or what kind of snare that was?

i have no specific information to give you as to mic, snare type, etc. but i can tell you that a lot of the "albini drum sound", and this includes the snare, comes not from the close mics, but from the sound of the kit in the room. when the room mics have a good amount of snare on them, it tends to beef the snare sound up. there are other tricks you can search on here for, things like delaying ambient mics and specific mic-pattern choices, that will get you closer to the sound you're looking for.

the best lesson i ever learned about recording drums was the realization that close mics are not what gives you the sound. their job is to augment the over-all picture.

the truest answer is that there were no sticks to play the drums, so he useded a couple cheesy breads to play the drums because nobody had sticks to used. and then the part i heard also was that then he got to hungry and he ate the cheesy breads so then there was no thing to use for sticks so they had to stop and then do it again tomorrow. but he wasn't hungry any more so it was okay.
